As the tide has literally turned on the weather the farm feels more wet than the depths of winter. It also raises bigger questions than shall we get the cows in early this year, it makes you worry about the future of our climate as the threat to our countryside could literally mean that we will be unable to grow crops. It truly is a travesty that the UK government do not consider climate change as a key national security issue. The threats to public health and food supplies are real and it will only get worse, particularly as the world is expected to soon breach the international goal of keeping the global temperature rise below 1.5C.
With that daunting thought it has also never been more important to think about how our food is grown and in what soil. I have been on a personal journey of discovery over the last decade or more and this is not just about food and health, this is a movement and this movement need you as an informed and empowered consumer that seeks “regenerative” food whenever possible as it become more available, who knows how to share the good news with others and who perhaps even grows regenerative food.
Make no mistake… this is time for each of us to get informed inspired and empowered to achieve our best health, to be our best selves, and to fulfil our purpose.
I started out on my organic journey over 20 years ago when we converted our farm in 2003, since then my research has taken me deep into the science and the health benefits of the meat I produce and the vegetables that our organic plot gives, not only that but the soil in which it is produced and the nutrients the livestock extract from the grasses and soils alike all give back to us as we eat these products that help support optimal health. So seek out your local organic regenerative farm and vegetable market garden, shake the hand that feeds you!
New Study: Pasture-Finished Meat Has Up to 10x More Nutrients
A new study published in Nature shows just how different pasture-finished beef is compared to grain-finished beef. Pasture-finished beef had significantly higher antioxidant activity, vitamin E, and choline (a vital nutrient for brain health). It also had four times the amount of omega-3s, 10 times the vitamin B3, less oxidative stress, better fatty acid profiles, and mitochondrial health. Comparatively, grain-finished beef had fewer nutrients, more omega-6, and antibiotic metabolites.
Later next month I will also be attending and talking at a brand new event called Land Alive, really looking forward to that, so exciting to see that things are moving in the right direction with so many people in the UK building connections with local food and drink at the heart of it all.
