September Update From Luke

As the month draws near and I approach another year older I reflect on the fact that we have been running the farm for 20 years since my parents passing. That time flies so quickly that I am also approaching the age in which they passed and perhaps it is time to think more about how the food we eat and the life that we lead can improve and increase the likelihood of living longer. July update from Luke: Pigs, wonderful pigs!

This month I want to talk about pigs, wonderful creatures that give so much, twice a year farrowing up to 15 piglets each time, natural selection does seem to give us an average of 10 piglets per litter but these sows are amazing and with deepest respect i   really enjoying looking after our pigs.   We have gone for rare breed pigs, we have Gloucester Old Spots / Large Blacks / Tamworth and Saddlebacks, 8 sows in total.   Those of you who have been with us for a while probably know that raising pigs off of our own fermented feed produced almost entirely on the farm has been something we’ve …

Pork Shoulder Roast Recipe

How to cook a pork roast, in chronological order! By @piggieandporkie . 👉 To eat at 2pm, start your pork shoulder off at 9.30. Score the skin & rub it with sea salt. 👉 Roast for 30 mins skin side up on 220. Flip the pork & cover with 2 layers of foil, lower the oven to 170 & cook for 4-4.5 hours (a Jamie recipe). 👉 After getting on with your Sunday biz, at 12:30 peel & chop your veggies & add them to a tray.
