Luke’s December Update

As we approach the new year, I would like to invite you to reflect and set a Word of the Year —a guiding theme for your personal and health journey. For me, that word is Regeneration : a renewed vision for the world, rooted in creating transformative change, a vision for a time on planet Earth when human beings live a thriving existence in harmony, co-creation and reciprocity with the Earth, food, land, water, air and financial sovereignty is established for all. We want to share the land and allow the next generation, especially children, to be free to shine as their most radiant selves, ignite …

Cow Share

A BETTER WAY TO EAT BEEF Our beef is organic meaning that our cows are reared to the highest welfare standards, their diet is always forage-based so naturally rich, nutritious and varied. Buying meat produced like this can be prohibitively expensive so we have come up with a solution and, predictably, it’s an age old one; cow share. So how does Cow Share work? You buy a share in one of our organic beef animals . We give you a date for collection, which gives you plenty of time to make room in your freezer. Cow Share is designed to fill one freezer drawer. In the meantime, your cow is taken to a loc …

November Update From Luke

Another year on, the milestone of November hangs heavy over our families head, the passing of both our parents  in early November 2003 and 2007 never leaves you, the heavy heart, the quivering voice, the thought provoking memories always there and then you realise how lucky you are, how amazing and beautiful life really is, that you can have gratitude for everything that your parents did for you, always trying to remember the good times, the smiles, the fun and ofcourse the love that they had for everyone they knew. Without them none of this would be possible, i would not have the belief in wha …

October Update From Luke

As the tide has literally turned on the weather the farm feels more wet than the depths of winter.   It also raises bigger questions than shall we get the cows in early this year, it makes you worry about the future of our climate as the threat to our countryside could literally mean that we will be unable to grow crops.   It truly is a travesty that the UK government do not consider climate change as a key national security issue.   The threats to public health and food supplies are real and it will only get worse, particularly as the world is expected to soon breach the international goal of ke …

September Update From Luke

As the month draws near and I approach another year older I reflect on the fact that we have been running the farm for 20 years since my parents passing. That time flies so quickly that I am also approaching the age in which they passed and perhaps it is time to think more about how the food we eat and the life that we lead can improve and increase the likelihood of living longer. I started The Story Farms & Butchery to share both the magic and reality of food production with my community. When you have a hand in producing, harvesting, and preparing the food that nourishes your body, you ca …

August Update

August on the Farm: Celebrating Regenerative Agriculture Through Festivals August is a vibrant time on the farm, with fields bursting with crops ready for harvest and the air filled with the buzz of life. For regenerative farmers, this month represents not only the culmination of months of careful planning and labour but also a time to celebrate the land and its bounty. The connection between August and the various festivals that occur on regenerative farms during this time is deeply rooted in traditions that honour the earth, the harvest, and the community. With this in mind, we’ve decided to f …

July Update From Luke

Well that has been a whirlwind of a month gone by in a flash, Festival season well under way, the big one and the smaller but just as buzzing one, Groundswell, where we spent 3 days experiencing a real sense of hope. It was so encouraging to witness so many people and not just farmers out there that actually understand the regeneration of the globe is essential.  When the lightbulb moment happens it appears so simple that by adopting REGENERATIVE FARMING PRACTICES IT PUTS CARBON BACK INTO THE SOIL –  HEALTHIER FOR THE PLANET, FOR THE ANIMALS AND FOR YOU! The discussions ranged from topics …

June Update From Luke

I write this on Father’s Day as i reflect on life and the last 15 years of having children, it makes you realise how important family and friends are to ones happiness and wellbeing.  It has been a journey of discovery over the years and such a fulfilling experience, I know I am far from a perfect parent, but I have a core understanding of how my state will directly influence my children. As a family we have our routine, our daily meal around the kitchen table, sharing and talking about the things that have made the day special. On a personal note I have become more and more fascinated wi …

May Update From Luke

Wow another month passed by in a blink, yet again the wettest on record but finally I sit writing this basked in sunshine, thank goodness it has finally arrived. We have managed to get some crops in the ground and some grass seed scattered. The cows and pigs are now all out and about which is a huge relief and a wonderful site to see them in their natural environment roaming the fields and munching on that green green grass. When I first released The Story in 2006, I had no idea it would be so hard starting an organic meat box business. Back then I believed the world would covert to more organ …

Happy Earth Day!

Hello all, Today is Earth Day. Every day since I started learning about REGENERATION, I have poured myself into this cause. The cause is real. As farmers we offer you a solution to the climate crisis on a  platter. Our solution is efficient, intelligently designed and absolutely realistic. We regenerate soil, soil that is used to grow our food, clothing and interiors. Regenerating Earth’s soils is one of the most important actions we can take in the face of the polycrisis we are facing as humanity; our future is in jeopardy and we are precariously balancing between a future of complete destruction …

April Update From Luke

I was hoping to write this months update with news of spring sunshine and glorious grass growth for the new born calves to be put out to pasture. Alas it is still raining and very much impossible to even think about livestock returning to the farm fields. We have some pigs out doing their job of minimum tillage to the arable rotational land, ready to plant in the Spring but apart from that Herons Green Farm on the other side of the lake is still under siege. Tip of the month: With Easter already over I wanted to share some interesting information and a few tips for Easter including a recipe for …
